A Successful Prelude to the Digital Energy Asia Summit 2024


On April 18, 2024, the Corus Hotel in Kuala Lumpur buzzed with energy and innovation as industry leaders, academicians, and government representatives gathered for the DEAS2024 workshop. Organized by APEXONE ASIA, this prelude industry workshop to the Digital Energy Asia Summit (DEAS) focused on driving competitive advantage through collaboration between universities, government agencies, and industries.



Highlights from DEAS2024

The event opened with a networking breakfast, setting the stage for a day filled with insightful discussions and knowledge-sharing. Prof. Emerita Datuk Dr. Asma Binti Ismail, former President of the Academy of Sciences of Malaysia, delivered an inspiring keynote address on nurturing industry-ready talent, highlighting the importance of developing a knowledge-based workforce.


Following the keynote, Riccardo Barbiellini Amidei Lelmi from Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore Singapore discussed the complexities of maritime cybersecurity regulations. His talk underscored the pressing need for robust cybersecurity measures in the maritime sector.

Pn. Nur Fadillah Mior Sharifuddin of PETRONAS shared valuable insights on shaping talent within the oil and gas industry, emphasizing the significance of technical capability management in navigating industry challenges.



A notable session by Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr. Mohamad Naufal bin Mohamad Saad from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS focused on preparing students for industry demands. He presented a compelling use case from UTP, showcasing successful strategies in bridging academic learning and industry requirements.

Tan Sri Rainer Althoff, CEO of ALC International, introduced the concept of a "Skill Data Space" by IDSA/Digital Connect Society, proposing innovative solutions for skill development and data management.

Madam Sujata Tilak from Ascent Intellimation provided an international perspective on future-proofing the workforce for sustainability, drawing on examples from India to highlight best practices.



The event also featured M Feizal M Ghazali from PETRONAS, who spoke on digital plant automation, presenting PRefChem's advancements in this area. His insights emphasized the importance of digitalization in achieving operational efficiency and sustainability.


A dynamic roundtable panel discussion moderated by Ir Dr. M Zurix M Mohamed from PETRONAS brought together diverse perspectives on the challenges of future-proofing the automation workforce amid energy transitions and industrial sustainability.


The workshop concluded with a closing speech by En Sharul Rashid, Head of Technical Excellence at PETRONAS and President of ISA Malaysia, followed by a networking lunch where attendees had the opportunity to engage further and build valuable connections.
